become a nose jury in order to track down bad smells from the wastewater treatment plant
Eau de Toulouse Métropole is recruiting from among the local residents a “nose jury”, which will be able to identify in real time the odor nuisance caused by the Ginestous-Garonne wastewater treatment plant, in the north of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne). Registration open until October 31, 2021.
Do you have a keen sense of smell, but don’t know what to do with it? This might be your time. Toulouse metropolis water recruiting since October 20, 2021 volunteer “nose juries”. Your mission if you accept it: with your nostrils on the prowl, detect the bad odors emanating from the Ginestous-Garonne wastewater treatment plant.
Twenty residents of this wastewater treatment plant in the north of Toulouse will be selected and trained in odor recognition, in order to be able to identify them. They can thus declare in real time the nature and intensity of perceived odor nuisance, on a mobile application.
The agents of the water purification service then adjust the interventions on the works of the Ginestous-Garonne wastewater treatment plant, explains Eau de Toulouse Métropole.
Odor reduction program
This “participatory measurement tool” is part of a larger odor reduction program launched in September 2020, “aimed at limiting odor nuisance to improve the lives of local residents”, explains Eau de Toulouse Métropole. Major works are underway: among other things, optimization of deodorization processes, installation of connected sensors, real-time odor modeling, containment of emissive structures … This program should end in 2022.
And it’s “to go further in the process of reducing odor nuisance”, that Eau de Toulouse Métropole is calling on you.
Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. The only prerequisites for becoming a “nose jury”: be of legal age, have a smartphone and an internet connection, and live less than 1.5 km from the Ginestous-Garonne wastewater treatment plant (i.e. in the Minimes districts , Ponts Jumeaux, Sept Deniers, Ginestous and Barrière de Paris).
Registrations are open until Sunday, October 31, 2021 and are made by filling out this form. To get up to speed and get more information, go to eaudetoulousemetropole.fr.
