Ancient Palio of Verona – CittàdiVerona.it
A weekend full of events, medieval re-enactments, demonstrations of arms, theatrical interpretations and guided tours. The streets and squares of the city center return to host theancient Palio of Verona, which with its over 800 years of history and tradition today it represents the oldest organized race in the world. Two days of free events, scheduled Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October, in which they will be proposed, in addition to the ancient one race of the palio, different traditional initiatives. And the “Dominica Totius Populi”, A day of celebration during which the city, in the Middle Ages, allowed foreigners to enter for a moment of exchange and sharing.
A great event, therefore, which includes a wide program of appointments. Saturday 23 October, it starts at 11.30, with the historical procession in Piazza Erbe.
At 3 pm, opening of educational activities in Piazza dei Signori, with the proposal of ancient crafts, demonstrations of arms, entertainment.
At 4 pm, re-enactment of the ancient palio in the courtyard of the Court, theatrical moment with the company La Graticcia and at 4.30 pm, in Piazza dei Signori, registration of the reenactors in the historical races.
At 6 pm, in Piazza dei Signori, announcement by the auctioneer of the Sunday of the Palio, in the company of the reenactors.
Guided tour organized by the CTG-Group of Cultural Guides and Animators Verona, with didactic path for the companies at 2.30 pm, 4 pm and 5.30 pm.
Activities close at 7pm.
Sunday 24 October, reopening of the event at 10.30: in piazza Erbe, presentation of the runners; in Piazza dei Signori, start of educational activities.
At 11.45 am, in Piazza dei Signori, demonstration of arms and tournaments of infantry and knights.
At 2.30 pm, in the square of Porta Palio, theatrical moment with the show ‘Il Palio di Verona’, with the company La Graticcia.
At 3.30 pm, the ancient foot race of the Palio dei popolani. Route: Departure from Porta Palio, Stradone Porta Palio, Corso Castelvecchio, Corso Cavour and arrival at the Arco dei Gavi.
At 3.45 pm, second theatrical moment in the square of the Arco dei Gavi.
Guided tour, with educational path to the companies at 10, 14.30 and 16. Closing of activities at 18.30.
