Toulouse. “In the Coupe de France, you play for a jersey”
The president of the Toulouse club showed the way last Sunday as a player. A look back at a capital performance.
What does this magical moment inspire you?
Lots of joy, of course. We had only reached this stage of the competition once, ten years ago, knowing that the Cadurcienne team generated by Nadine Brouel and Damien de Jesus had finished.
Montesquieu-Avantès is a formation at least as formidable as that of Cahors?
Certainly yes ! Between the son of Damien Sogno, that of “Dédé” Balansa, Francis Steis, the Ariégeois formed a beautiful whole. The proof, if we take only the scores of the doublet, favorable or not, all the matches were bitterly disputed!
What can you tell us about the duplication of the female jump seat, a very sensitive subject from a tactical point of view?
For me, putting only one female on the scoresheet is taking a big risk. Knowing that even a world champion can miss the point, it is essential to double the post, hence the presence, in our case, of Angélique Sournac alongside Jessica Rols. In addition, it is good to honor this category which represents 40 to 50% of the points scored by a team, let us not forget. Two male substitutes is a lot, one should be able to suffice.
A word on the results of this first tour?
The biggest surprise is the elimination of the Salvetains, who had ridden the Grand Huit during the previous edition. Likewise, one could hope for better from Roques, finally beaten by Saint-Pierre de Rivière.
Does shining the showcase give a club even more relief?
All club competitions are important, and I think they represent the future of pétanque. Their audience is constantly on the rise, especially as we are fighting for a jersey. The downside is that there are choices to be made, but that’s also a team sport.
A wish for the draw for the second round?
I will not be too disappointed if we had to move, it opens up other horizons.
