The Toulouse Low Emission Zone (ZFE-m) is behind schedule. Initially planned for spring 2021, then postponed in September, it has still not entered service in Toulouse.
Inter-club event
As a reminder, in order to improve air quality within the metropolis, the future ZFE-m will gradually ban the most polluting vehicles in a perimeter that will include Toulouse (inside the ring road) and a small part of Colomiers and Tournefeuille.
The panels that materialize its barely established perimeter (they are covered while awaiting the application of the ZFE-m, editor’s note), the Low Emission Zone irritates.
To protest against the Low Emissions Zone (ZFE-m), a collective bringing together associations of motorcyclists and motorists from all over Occitania announces that a “major inter-club demonstration” will take place on Saturday 6 November 2021 in the Toulouse conurbation.
Hundreds of bikers and motorists expected
That day, hundreds of bikers and motorists are expected to protest against the future device.
Johnny, the president of the Templars on The Road, an association of bikers in Toulouse, evokes this first major event:
This is the first and the idea is to bring together as many people as possible, motorists and motorcyclists, against the low-emission zone around which there is very little communication. We are not against ecology but there, basically, it is punitive ecology. The middle class and modest people will find themselves faced with a fait accompli and will not be able to change vehicles to take a new one and thus comply with the rule. It is abusive.
Towards an aggregation of anger?
For him, “a great protest movement will be created” and could intensify with the aggregation of other issues such as the rise in fuel prices and the passage to 80 km / h still not digested, several years later.
“Today, collectives are contacting us from all over Occitania and have announced that they will be present on November 6,” assures Johnny.
The demonstrators will leave Sesquières at 2 p.m. and will march through the metropolitan area of Toulouse.
Their manifestation could take the form of a snail operation in the city.
What is the Low Emission Zone?
As a reminder, in order to improve air quality within the metropolis, the future ZFE-m will gradually ban the most polluting vehicles in a perimeter that will include Toulouse (inside the ring road) and a small part of Colomiers and Tournefeuille. In total, this ZFE will extend over 72 km². The driving ban for the vehicles concerned will be valid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. According to the schedule initially planned, the entry into force of the EPZ will be gradual. No longer available to drive: End of 2021: vans, vans and heavy goods vehicles Crit’air 5 sticker and not classified.
In 2022: the same commercial vehicles and heavy goods vehicles certified Crit’air 4.
In 2023: light vehicles and two-wheelers, certified Crit’air 4, 5 and not classified.
In 2024: light vehicles, two-wheelers, utility vehicles and heavy goods vehicles up to Crit’air 3.
To date, only vehicles certified Crit’air 2, 1 and electric or hydrogen vehicles, authorized to circulate inside the zone. In total, according to Toulouse Métropole estimates, 47,000 could therefore be banned from vehicles from January 1, 2024.
