Red Bull Salzburg: Premiere makes you want more
After the first premier class victory of an Austrian team over a German one, the next premiere should soon follow for Red Bull Salzburg: the entry into the round of 16 of the Champions League.
Karim Adeyemi and Noah Okafor shot Salzburg to victory.

If Noah Okafor had set his degree a few centimeters lower in the twelfth minute of the game, he would have FC Red Bull Salzburg the further course of the Champions League encounter against the VfL Wolfsburg can already look forward to a bit more relaxed. But football, as ex-Schalke professional Fabian Ernst already knew in 2007, does not take place in the subjunctive. And so after about 15 minutes it is not 2-0 for the bulls, but 1: 1.
Because only 180 seconds after Okafors hit the crossbar, Lukas Nmecha nodded off to compensate for VfL. After that, the Austrian record champions struggled for a long time, but the guests from Germany got better and better in the match – and could take the lead in the course of the first half.
Salzburg successful after corner kicks
“Of course we got the goal a little unnecessarily from a standard situation. In fact, I don’t want to look for a fly in the ointment today, but enjoy the evening,” said head coach Matthias Jaissle on “Sky”. The performance in the second half impressed the 33-year-old. It was “a cool feeling as a coach” to be able to “stress the opponent even more” after the break, said Jaissle.
Wolfsburg started well in the second 45 minutes, only gradually returning to the strength of the opening minutes. Ultimately, like in the first round, it was a standard situation that turned the game around – only this time in favor of Salzburg. After a corner kick, Okafor took advantage of the disorder in the Wolves’ back team and after just over an hour made it 2-1 for the Jaissle-Elf. The 30,000 spectators got a similar picture in the 77th minute: Again Okafor reacted the fastest after a corner, again the ball landed in the net. The preliminary decision.
“We played great. I’m really happy about the two goals, but even more about the three points,” said the Swiss, who was named Player of the Match by UEFA, after the match on “ServusTV”. “We have to continue in the same way, then we have a good chance of the knockout phase.”
Jaissle, who is still unbeaten with Salzburg, was even more reserved: “It depends on how we play the next games and how our opponents do it. We always talked about not doing arithmetic games.”
Adeyemi: “That makes me happy”
But Jaissle should also be aware that after the first Champions League victory of an Austrian team over a German, the Bulls are on the best way to the second round of the premier class – and could thus ensure a first in club history. The lead over Wolfsburg and Lille is already five points after the third match day, while Seville is four.
“We’re not done yet. We want to win every game,” said Adeyemi, who was facing an additional burden due to the persistent change rumors nothing to notice war. He is concentrating on the task in Salzburg, because “I enjoy playing here. We always play with joy and step on the gas. That makes me happy.”
