Municipalities tackle nationwide family research – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – The working group “Family Research Liechtenstein”, which became the mayor of Vaduz and the heads of the Liechtenstein municipalities in 2020, has developed a project basis in more than 20 meetings in order to start a common, cross-municipality platform for family research. The Vaduz municipal council has now approved a loan of 130,000 francs for the period from 2022 to 2024. The municipality of Vaduz announced this on Wednesday.
Almost all municipalities now have printed local family books. A common, cross-community and, above all, digital platform should now lead the important task of family research into the digital age. The main goals of this project are the consolidation and nationwide networking of the municipality’s own data and the publication of family trees on the Internet. Not only the users should benefit from this, but also family research and historical sciences in general, writes the municipality of Vaduz.
Data security and gaming operations play a central role in such projects and would be guaranteed by appropriate IT measures and well-founded coordination with the relevant data protection authorities. The data sovereignty itself, as well as the data responsibility, should continue to rest with the respective municipalities in the future. Regarding the data maintenance, when & the minimum requirements are fulfilled – the decision as to how deeply the data is entered is up to each individual municipality.
How to proceed now
In order to implement the tasks of data consolidation and the coordination of data migration on the common platform, the partners planned to set up the “Liechtenstein Family Research” association, including management, as management.
The participating communities want to share the costs with a population key. After three years, also expected in 2024, the project is to go into ongoing operation. The municipalities will decide at the next municipal council meetings on their specific participation in the “Liechtenstein family research” project.
In any case, the Vaduz municipal council was in favor of the project: At a meeting on Tuesday, he approved a loan of 130,000 francs for the first three years of the project.
