Mola towards a prolongation over time
According to information from RMC Sport, manager Ugo Mola, at the end of his contract in 2023, should extend over time at Stade Toulousain. Discussions are ongoing between the two parties.
Ugo Mola and Stade Toulousain, it’s probably far from over. At the head of the red and black club since 2015, after the departure of Guy Novès, the former international (48 years old, 12 caps) will be at the end of his contract in 2023. But, behind the scenes, the leaders have been working for several weeks on his to come up. According to information from RMC Sport, Mola is expected to return to a long-term lease.
With Toulouse, he won everything. Since taking office, Mola has twice launched the Shield of Brennus (2019 and 2021) but also won the Champions Cup last season for a historic double. This is a strong sign from President Didier Lacroix and Toulouse leaders who intend to build on continuity in the years to come. Both in the management and within the workforce where discussions have started for an extension of the best elements, starting with the international scrum half Antoine Dupont (free in 2023 like Romain Ntamack in particular) that his club obviously wants keep for many years. Here too, optimism is in order.
“You don’t have to want to last in order to last”
A doubt had hung, at the end of last season, on the future of Mola. After the victory in the Top 14 final against La Rochelle, synonymous with a double after the Champions Cup final won against the same opponent, the former international was enigmatic in the spans of the Stade de France: “If I will be there at the recovery? Uh … yeah, yes. We’ll see, “he had then launched.
And to add: “You must not want to last to last, he notably launched. You have to try to exist when you think that you have the necessary levers to move your group forward”. Obviously, Stade Toulousain, leader of the Top 14 after the first 7 days despite their defeat in Lyon, and Mola are still far from being satisfied.
