Michaël Ciani : “Souley, je le vois en boite à Miami. Il me dit ‘Micka, il faut que tu ailles à Bordeaux s’il te plait, parce qu’il faut que j’aille à Marseille’”
Michael Ciani remembered his signing at the Girondins de Bordeaux. The central defender was first called by Didier Deschamps to join OM, but he participated in a game of musical chairs with Souleymane Diawara.
“I had Marseille who called me before Bordeaux. Didier Deschamps called me, and he came to sign. I was on vacation in Miami. I remembered my agent telling me that there were numbers calling me, that I had to answer. We were coming out of a club, it must have been 8am, something like that, and there’s a number calling me. I, tired, hang up. It calls back two minutes later, and I hang up again. And it still reminds us: ‘but this one is drunk!’. In fact, as I was in great demand, I told myself that he was a journalist… it continues to remind people, and I tell myself that if it reminded me so much, it is important. I answer, and it’s Didier Deschamps, who tells me that I’m one of the first recruits he wants, etc … But in fact, they managed to get Souley Diawara (laughs). And Souley, I see him clubbing in Miami. He said to me ‘Micka, you have to go to Bordeaux please, because I have to go to Marseille’ (laughs). In real life, it suited me because I was a fan of Bordeaux, and the only club that could keep me in Ligue 1 was the Girondins. On returning from Miami, Laurent Blanc called me, and for once his speech was convincing and voila ”.
