From next week, non-European tourists will also need a Swiss Covid certificate. Zurich hoteliers have now intervened with the government council.
The upswing has only just started: this summer, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, large numbers of non-European tourists and tourists came to Zurich. It is mainly people from the USA and the Gulf States who are now traveling to Switzerland again. There are hardly any Asian tourists yet. This has to do with the travel regulations in the countries of origin and the lack of flight connections, as Zurich Tourism Director Martin Sturzenegger explains.
He assesses the current situation as ambivalent: “The occupancy of the hotels is on average 55 to 60 percent. That is a lot less than before the pandemic, but a lot more than a year ago. ” The introduction of the 3G rules in mid-September did not significantly affect the number of overnight stays. «Those who resist know that there are rules in every country. The guests are not against the requirements as long as they work. ” But now Sturzenegger sees massive problems facing Zurich tourism: “I’m afraid that chaos will break out on October 24th.”
