Ukrtransgaz, as the operator of gas storage facilities in Ukraine, is ready to offer the services of Ukrainian underground storage facilities for storage of the EU gas insurance reserve.
About this informs press service of Ukrtransgaz.
The answer is that due to the critical situation in the European energy market in 2021, the EU has returned to the issue of gas insurance reserves, which have minimized threats to energy security in the event of a deficit. The European Commission is already looking for sites for long-term storage of insurance gas.
Ukrtransgaz means that Ukraine has something to offer its European partners.
«Undoubtedly, for this purpose it is necessary to include Ukrainian underground storage facilities in the list of sites where this insurance reserve can be stored, and to establish infrastructure for unimpeded gas transportation between European countries, in particular between Ukraine, Poland and Hungary.“, – said Sergei Pereloma, Acting General Director of Ukrtransgaz.
The total volume of Ukrainian underground is the largest among European countries – 31 billion cubic meters. It is noted that the gas storage operator annually uses about 60% of capacity to meet the needs of domestic consumers of Ukraine, thus saving about 40% for gas storage of EU companies.
after the refusal of Russia’s Gazprom to book additional transit capacity through the GTS in November, the price of gas in Europe has resumed growth.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline a new modern weapon of Russia, the consequences of which are still unknown.
