The annual conference of the cable car industry is currently taking place in Zell am See (Pinzgau). With the 3-G rule and the masks in the gondolas for the safety of the guests, you can live with it, is the tenor.
If even Franz Hörl, as spokesman for the Austrian cable car company, is halfway satisfied with the negotiated corona regulation, then that means something.
“We have always said that we stand by the 3-G rule. But it also has to be a solution that is affordable. We have now also been able to convince in Vienna what is feasible for us. It is now an extra effort, but absolutely fair for the common situation and security ”, said Hörl.
Winter season 2020: huge drop in sales
In any case, the expectations for the winter season are high. In the previous season there was a minus of 90 percent and more compared to the record winter 2019, so the cable car industry is hoping for good business today.
Peter Mitterer, head of the Hinterglemm mountain railways, is also confident: “We are expecting a utilization of around 80 percent. A minus of 20 percent seems realistic to me. If we can do that, then we are well on the way. The advance sales on the Kitzsteinhorn but also in our region got off to a good start. There is good demand from the Salzburgers and Upper Austrians. “
Great potential for winter sports enthusiasts in Central Europe
A prerequisite for good business with the cable cars is a well-booked hotel business. 17 million winter sports enthusiasts – that is how large the guest potential is in Central Europe according to the Austrian advertising. The only question is: how much of it can be accessed.
The mood is very good, says Renate Ecker from the Zell am See / Kaprun (Pinzgau) tourist association: “We are very satisfied with the current booking situation. But we also know that. The booking situation and the bookings are becoming shorter and shorter. ”Short-term currently means booking one day before arrival. Franz Schenner from the “Netzwerk Winter” hopes that people are ready to vaccinate: “Then we have no problem at all.”
3-G controls when selling tickets
The 3-G checks will be carried out next winter when tickets are sold. For those who have not been vaccinated, the ski pass WILL BE activated for as long as the current Corona test is valid. Basically, it all boils down to one thing: vaccination will probably be part of skiing fun in Austria.
