Paymentsense, a provider of online payment methods, investigated which cities in the world are most innovative. In addition, the number of registered other figures for fifty cities includes patent applications, the number of new company registrations in 2019 and the number of universities. It also measured how often people searched the internet for ‘how to start a business in…’ and the number of young start-ups.
Seventh place
Amsterdam is not doing badly with seventh place in the top 20 according to Paymentsense. The city scores on the index an innovation score of 69.8 out of 100. Amsterdam is praised for its rich culture and history, but the city also scores high for business innovation that attracts new talent.
According to the survey, 71,531 new companies were registered in Amsterdam in 2019. More than 2,500 international companies in Amsterdam account for approximately 15% of total employment in the region. Our capital is seen as attractive for start-ups, partly because of excellent transport connections and a good quality of life.
