Why the siren of a SEVESO site will hold back, this Thursday, in Toulouse
This Thursday, November 21, the siren of the Esso de la Fondeyre site in Toulouse will sound at 7 p.m. A warning signal to the populations which resonate within the framework of an exercise.
False alarm, this is an exercise. This Thursday, October 21, the Haute-Garonne prefecture will test its emergency system in the event of an industrial accident. Thus, the siren of the Esso de la Fondeyre site, a Seveso high threshold industrial site in Toulouse, will sound at 7 p.m. to trigger a simulation of the Special intervention plan (PPI) and the establishment of the command structures normally implemented in these emergency situations.
“In a real situation, triggering this siren would mean that a risk of explosion is possible. It would then be advisable to move away from the depot by evacuating the perimeter on foot ”, specify the authorities, who will ensure that all measures have been taken so that the activities of residents are not disturbed.
What is a Special Intervention Plan?
The PPI (Special Intervention Plan) is established with a view to the protection of populations, property and the environment to deal with the particular risks associated with the existence and operation of industrial sites classified as high threshold SEVESO. The development and implementation of this plan, which is part of the ORSEC system, under the responsibility of the department prefect.
