Toulouse: Will Laure, the crepe maker, have to leave her kiosk in allées Jean-Jaurès?
Installed in a kiosk in the hypercentre of Toulouse for two years, Laure Potet received a letter telling her that she should have closed her pancake business in two weeks. She hoped to be able to stay until the next call for projects. A petition was launched by a trader to support her.
Laure Potet has been running La Migoudène, one of the kiosks located on allées Jean-Jaurès in Toulouse for almost two years. Two years that its pancakes made from local products have seduced a clientele of regulars. But this short parenthesis will have to end on October 31.
The 38-year-old woman hoped that the convention which lied to the town hall of Toulouse would be extended, a letter received on Friday dampened her hopes; in less than two weeks, the shopkeeper must have left the premises. “I knew that date was coming but I applied for an extension in early September and was given to understand that I could stay until the next call for tenders. Since she received this letter, the one who trained in the crepe maker profession 4 years ago after having worked 10 years in computer engineering, has sent herself distraught.
“I am helping to improve the esplanade”
“I don’t know what will become of me, I have a loan to pay, I want to earn a living, I feel legitimate and I am helping to improve the esplanade. Moreover, once I have left, the kiosk will be empty until the next call for projects. “
A demand on the fly Changer.org and downtown reported nearly 400 signatures. Laure makes a point of clarifying that she has no hostility towards the town hall, she simply wants to be able to work. Christophe Alvès, the elected official in charge of the kiosks, indicates that this extension cannot be effective because of the “legal framework”. A place on the markets was however offered to Laure. A proposal she thought about. “It’s not what I want to do, it’s not ideal, but if I have it, it’s better than nothing. “
