The volume of Russian investments in US government securities in August remained almost at the level of July – Economy and business
WASHINGTON, October 19. / TASS /. The volume of Russian investments in US government securities in August did not change from the previous month and amounted to $ 4,004 billion. This follows from the documents published on Monday by the US Treasury Department.
In July, the indicator was estimated at $ 4,006 billion. The share of long-term bonds in the amount of $ 203 million. Short-term bonds accounted for $ 3.8 billion. In July, the first indicator was estimated at $ 305 million, and the second – at $ 3.7 billion.
In the spring of 2018, Russia began to sharply reduce its investments in the US national debt. In April, their level fell from $ 96 billion to $ 48.7 billion, and in May – to $ 14.9 billion. In August 2019, Russia for the first time increased its investments in US government securities to $ 9.3 billion.
In March 2020, the Russian Federation more than tripled the volume of investments in US government securities compared to February: from $ 12.58 billion to $ 3.85 billion. In April, the volume of investments was increased to $ 6.85 billion thanks to short-term bonds. In May last year, Russia cut its investment from $ 6.85 billion to $ 5.39 billion.
Japan remained the largest holder of US government securities in August – almost $ 1.32 trillion. China came in second with $ 1.05 trillion.
