The first strategic proposals for contrasting and adapting to climate change delivered to the Captains Regent – elaborated by the Table for Sustainable Development
Coordinated by the Secretary of State for the Territory and the Environment Stefano Canti, the Table for Sustainable Development met this morning which has the task of defining the strategies for the realization in the Republic of San Marino of the objectives of the Agenda 2030 of the UN. The Table has drawn up a document containing strategic proposals for contrasting and adapting to climate change which is in line with the general principles consolidated on the basis of the indications provided at European level, as well as on the experiences of other European countries. The appointment of COP 26 – UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties – the largest summit for the fight against international change scheduled in Glasgow at the end of the month of the climate change month scheduled in Glasgow, which the Republic of San Marino will also participate in – is an opportunity to discuss the “San Marino National Strategy on Sustainable Development” with particular reference to strategies for contrasting and adapting to climate change. At the end of the work of the Table, its members were received in audience by the Captains Regent, HE Francesco Mussoni and HE Giacomo Simoncini. Their Excellencies were presented with some first proposals that could be envisaged for the San Marino national adaptation strategy to climate change to be implemented through an Action Plan. The Republic of San Marino, while aware of its size and weight compared to large nations, must do its part, not only for the planet but to safeguard its territory. Due to its intrinsic characteristics and qualities, the Republic of San Marino could become a laboratory where to implement theories and policies that could be applied to the fight against climate change so as to allow other nations to better understand its effectiveness and feasibility in a defined real context. Stefano Canti (Secretary of State for the Territory and the Environment): ‘Today we presented the work that the Table for Sustainable Development has prepared in anticipation of our country’s participation in COP26 in Glasgow. This is a work aimed at the goal of Goal 13 of the 2030 Agenda to fight climate change. The Table is also working extensively to give an answer to the strategies of the 2030 Agenda. ‘
