she is launching a virtual race for Pink October in parallel with her cycle tour of Europe
Alexandra Husta, a Nantes woman suffering from breast cancer, has chosen to launch a virtual race on the net to raise funds, in parallel with her own bicycle race across Europe.
October 1 marks the launch of Pink October, a month dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. Alexandra Husta, a 34-year-old Nantes woman suffering from breast cancer, wanted to participate in the fundraising by organizing a virtual race on the internet.
It was the call of travel and adventure that made this idea germinate in Alexandra’s head. She herself is on a bicycle and has planned to cover 8000km on the roads of Europe. She is making a stopover in Toulouse this Wednesday, October 20. After having received heavy treatments and undergone an ablation, the Nantes woman made the choice to escape and give new energy to her body by evacuating valuable products.
A big dose of freedom
But it is above all a path of resilience. “Looking back, I would never have ridden a bike if I hadn’t had cancer. I hadn’t done it since I was 15. Playing sports contributes to a 25% lower risk of recurrence. I’m not a cyclist, I really enjoy myself. Yesterday evening, I tasted a good cassoulet! “
“I take a big dose of freedom, of happiness, confides the young woman. I want to give hope to those who are new to it or are in heavy treatment. When I was in chemo, I had a lot of trouble projecting myself, it was a very hard period. But we can tell ourselves that we are going to start living again after that. If my experience can boost the girls, that’s fine with me! “
With the support of internet users
“I had breast cancer 3 years ago, and am still on hormone therapy, she explains. I still have three operations to undergo for my breast reconstruction. My cancer started when my grandmother, Jeannine, passed away. With her heritage, I bought myself a travel bike that I called Jeannette “.
The young woman completed a Tour de France last year, alone and by bike. With Jeannette, she traveled 5200km in three months. During this journey, she was encouraged and supported by Internet users who followed every day. Almost every night, she posted photos and videos on Facebook to tell about her adventure. With this support, she launched a virtual race on the internet for the benefit of an association.
“Jeannette and I …”
“Jeannette and I organize this course until October 31, explains the cyclist who is already on the way back, after having traveled the roads of Germany, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece. The kilometers traveled by all the participants will be added in order to establish at which geographical point of our trip the participants have arrived “.
For Lake Constance: 1000km, Begrade: 2000km, Moldavia and Ukraine: 3000km, Romania and the Black Sea: 4000km, etc. There is no fixed starting point. Everyone can start from wherever they want in the world. The participation fee is set at € 3. It is also possible to make a free donation to theNantes association “My parenthesis” which accompanies women with any type of cancer, announces their full recovery.
A virtual course open to all
Registrations on the timepulse website are open to everyone from 3 to 99 years old. You can register and register relatives. The longest route to do in one go is 100km. The shortest of 2km. “I thought of my mother who doesn’t ride a bike … The two kilometers are for those who walk, explains Alexandra. You can participate several times. For the moment, I am ahead of them, 7400km on the clock and them around 1200. You have to push guys if you want to go to the Black Sea! “.
At the same time, a prize pool is also put online: “60% will be devoted to mechanical and comfort care for Jeannette, the daily costs of food and accommodation and the purchase of technical clothing”, explains Alexandra on leetchi website.
The remaining 40% will go to the association “My parenthesis”. “Association to which I am personally a member in the context of my cancer and through which I can benefit, among other things, from coaching sessions and sports activities necessary for my rehabilitation”.
A call back to life
Alexandra had cancer at the age of 31. “It’s young and there are more and more young women who are affected, she laments. It is important that they too are aware of this and feel their breasts“. Solidarity, prevention but also anger for life and good humor characterize this”resilience journey “.
“It’s a good reminder to life! “ exclaims Alexandra who returns to her village of Haute-Goulaine near Nantes. Next stages: Bordeaux, Blaye, Jonzac, Angoulême, Rochefort and a climb up the ocean coast to Loire-Atlantique.
