Salzburg: Political dispute over the expansion of the Liefering fire station
The city of Salzburg will die of around one million euros in the expansion of the fire department in Liefering. But the decision to do so is accompanied by political disapproval.
The city senate decided on the principle office report on the expansion of the Liefering fire station of the voluntary fire brigade of the city of Salzburg at the intersection of Rottweg / Bichlfeldstrasse.
Specifically, the aim is to create a new multi-purpose room there for around one million euros for shared use with limited clubs. Furthermore, to enlarge the garage so that three vehicles can drive out at the same time. And to relocate the changing rooms (still located behind the vehicles in the hall) in such a way that they no longer pose any risk to the Floriani and meet current safety standards.
“That doesn’t work according to the usual rules”
The project is to be implemented in detail in 2024 by the City of Salzburg Immobiliengesellschaft SIG. The fact that the rough concept now available for this came free of charge from the Lieferingen architect and ÖVP councilor Christoph Brandstätter angered the citizens’ list. BL club boss Inge Haller: “Regardless of whether it is paid or unpaid. That is not possible according to the compliance rules.” The SPÖ also said the optics were “not optimal”.
Mayor Harald Preuner (ÖVP) countered that Brandstätter had acted on his request: “I don’t see a problem there. The SIG then has to carry out the final tender and commissioning of an architect in the medium term anyway.”

New fire fighting vehicle for professional fire brigade
The city’s professional fire brigade needs a new fire fighting vehicle. It will replace one from 1998 – now very susceptible to repair and with almost 92,000 km on the clock. The new vehicle will cost a good 700,000 euros, it will be ordered through the Federal Procurement GmbH and paid for in several annual installments.
