(ANSA) – GENOA, 19 OCT – “The number of people who turned to the listening centers of Caritas in Genoa went from 5405, in 2019, to 6202, in 2020, with an increase of 15% but the first accesses have increased of 48% “. Thus Lucia Foglino, head of the Observatory on Poverty of the Genoese Caritas.” A fact to underline – he added – concerns the disparity recorded in the districts of our city. in Valbisagno and Valpolcevera and in the historic center which are the commonly more popular social areas, with younger people and with a higher percentage of foreigners. “” for 2 reasons – underlines Foglino – or because they lost their jobs, perhaps as home helps or carers, or for the ancient reason that, in the case of difficulties, it is almost always the women who go to ask for help ».
From the data it emerges that a greater number of the first accesses was registered among people who register with citizenship income or with precarious or irregular jobs and who, very often, also round up with other illegal income, or workers in layoffs who do not they received the subsidy on time. There have also been cases of families who found themselves asking for help because the only income was that of an elderly person who, dying from covid, left family members without money (ANSA).
