Munich: Fire in the apartment building! Always new hot spots and danger of collapse – the fire brigade gives details
Tiring work for the Munich fire brigade: A fire in Schwabing-West turns into a major fire that keeps 140 rescue workers on their toes. One person is in the intensive care unit.
Update from October 19, 10:18 p.m .: After the severe fire in the west of Schwabing, the fire brigade announced further information on the grueling mission that evening, which kept a total of around 140 emergency services in check. Shortly after entering the apartment, a respirator found the 65-year-old apartment owner lying unconscious on the floor. As a result, life-saving measures were initiated by the rescue personnel on hand. The seriously injured is therefore in the intensive care unit of a Munich clinic.
When the fire is extinguished, the emergency services could always find new embers due to the large number of objects. In the meantime, structural engineers are called in to discuss the risk of the building collapsing. Because these actually passed, the fire brigade stopped their work. The fire-fighting work also affected the apartments below, and an adjacent supermarket was also affected, which was suspended until further notice.
Only at 7.14 p.m. did the last forces leave the scene, as the fire brigade explains. Karl-Theodor-Strasse between Bonner Platz and Degenfeldstrasse was closed during the work at the site. Both the professional fire brigade and the voluntary fire brigade were in action. The cause of the fire was still unclear, according to estimates it is in the low to mid six-digit range.
