Lion magic guaranteed | Löwen Frankfurt
The Frankfurt Lions rush from victory to victory in DEL 2 and inspire their fans. These can still look forward to a special show.
Frankfurt – This Wednesday, the Frankfurt Lions offer their fans a special show as a training session, as some tricks and special tricks are to be expected. There was a lot of magic to marvel at the previous competitive appearances of the championship and promotion candidate this season – and impressive results in addition: six games, 18 points. Only three teams have managed to start the season like this since the German Ice Hockey League 2 was founded in 2007: the EHC Munich (2009/10), the Bietigheim Steelers (2016/17) and the Ravensburg Towerstars (2018/19).
Even in the 5: 2 (2: 1, 1: 0, 2: 1) victory on Sunday against the promoted Selber Wölfe, the lions were the leading team. You shot twice as often as the newcomer, you have the defensively set opponent for up to ten minutes in the middle third when you allowed too many puck losses, of course, mastered. “It was still not an easy game. We started well and later checked the game at all times, except for the small inattentions in the second section. We addressed these brief mistakes during the break before the final third and corrected them accordingly,” said coach Bo Subr, who is very satisfied with the aggressive and offensive style of play of his team. At the moment everything is just right: The Lions have scored the most hits and conceded the fewest so far, they play power play just as successfully as they are outnumbered.
The Frankfurt goals in Selb were scored by Manuel Strodel (3rd), twice Rylan Schwartz (15th / 30th), who is the best scorer in the league with twelve points, Dylan Wruck (44th) and finally, after a nice individual action, Tomas Sykora (54th) .).). Brett Thompson scored twice for the wolves (16./48.).
On Friday evening, the front runner had defeated the weak Dresden Ice Lions in front of 2867 spectators on Ratsweg (2: 1, 3: 0 0: 0). “That was playful and very effective. The team is in good shape, you can see the hard work during the training week”, praised sports director Franz-David Fritzmeier.
Like the opponents before, the Saxons found no means against the brisk, aggressive and body-conscious fore-checking of the Frankfurters, pucks constantly die in the opposing zone and they know the resulting chances are ice cold. As with the double strike in the 6th minute, when Darren Mieszkowski and Dylan Wruck presented the 2-0 for the lions from Main within 22 seconds.
If there was anything to complain about, it was the carelessness in the passing game, which allowed Dresden to come back outnumbered (12./Nicklas Mannes). But the 3: 1 by Rylan Schwartz was followed by the next double strike immediately after the restart. Only 26 seconds passed between Ryon Moser’s great goal and Yannick Wenzel’s 5-1. In the final third, the Frankfurt Ice Lions contented themselves with bringing home the victory safely.
The next home game against the Lausitzer Füchse on Friday (October 22nd, 7.30 p.m.) will now be a very special one for the Frankfurt Ice Lions and their fans: For the first time since 2019 and the beginning of the corona pandemic, there is no capacity utilization of the ice rink Restriction more – provided that the audience has been shown to have been vaccinated or recovered. Since it is different than in other federal states in Hesse, there is no further relaxation in the implementation of the 3G concept, the Löwen Frankfurt have decided to rely on the 2G model in the future.
“We know that we can’t please everyone in the current situation, but after we have gained experience in the first three league home games, held many discussions and weighed the pros and cons, there is now clearly no alternative to this step,” say the Löwen shareholders Stefan Krämer and Andreas Stracke. With the changeover to the 2G regulation, the distance and mask requirement in the ice rink, as well as contact tracking, is no longer necessary.
On the other hand, the 3G rules apply to the public show training on Wednesday, and a mask is only required until the field is open. The one to one and a half hour event, which begins at 5.30 p.m. in the ice rink, is moderated by stadium announcer Rüdiger Storch. Head coach Subr and his assistant Jan Barta each choose teams that will compete for victory in various show competitions on the ice. The entertainment is not neglected either. Admission is free, registration is not necessary – and further lion magic is guaranteed. löf / red
