Digital sovereignty in the service of competitiveness
Sovereignty is the key word on everyone’s lips today. The shock wave of Covid-19 requires that each nation equip itself with the necessary means to strengthen its sovereignty. It is an exercise that applies to a variety of areas including food, industry, finance, economics and health. Or, as everyone knows, development in each of these sectors is now primarily based on digital technology.
Indeed, at a time of the boom in data, digital services, the smart city, etc., it is indeed digital technology that underpins the technological performance and economic progress of nations. And through its ability to do so much more with less, it is also digital technology that will allow us to face the challenge of our generation: the climate challenge. In short, no sovereignty is possible without mastering digital technology.
A key role
The question then arises of the means of this mastery. At a time when computing power is increasing, dematerialization is accelerating and network security is strengthening, digital sovereignty will increasingly depend on a tool that little to know but which will mark the years to come: the sovereign cloud.
It is this sovereign cloud that will play a key role in hosting the services of the State’s public operators and legally protecting citizens’ data.
So how can we move forward on this subject? Application models are multiplying: many European countries are working on partnerships with GAFAMs while developing sovereign cloud projects at European level. Many schemes are being tested and considered.
Or tomorrow, Monaco will be, with Monaco Cloud, the first European country to acquire an operational sovereign cloud. This time ahead is not the result of chance, it is the result of a strategy and above all of a conviction.
Obviously, the digital shield is the primary function of a cloud, and Monaco Cloud is no exception. Security has always been a key lever for the attractiveness of the Principality and Monaco. Today Cloud provides guarantees which constitute new standards of excellence in the field.
Overcome geographic constraints
On the other hand, the particularity of Monaco Cloud lies in the choice to make this cloud a real tool for the development of our economy.
Indeed, it is with its sovereign cloud that the city-nation of Monaco will be able to definitively free itself from its constraints and establish its economic influence well beyond its borders. This was the meaning of the Extended Monaco program initiated two years ago by Prince Albert II. It is now selected: through a private-public partnership, Monaco Cloud will rely on leading technologies to guarantee the operationality of the public part of the cloud and on Monegasque teams to innovate private access .
Respect for confidentiality, again a strong marker of the Monegasque promise to its citizens and residents, is illustrated through an unprecedented encryption key that will allow all users to keep exclusive control of their data. . All in the service of a commendable business model.
Three key objectives
Eventually, Monaco Cloud aims to become the real backbone of Monegasque economic infrastructure. Its launch thus completes the plan initiated a little over 2 years ago with the generalization of fiber, 5G and digital identity, which has made it possible to meet 3 key objectives in record time:
– strengthen the quality of service to citizens through an extended and unified digital service offer.
– digital entry costs for Monegasque companies.
– the attractiveness of the Principality’s economy, by attracting companies and digital entrepreneurs who are sensitive to the unprecedented mix of performance, security and respect for confidentiality guaranteed by this sovereign cloud of the future.
Today, with this cloud, Monaco stands out as a nation of excellence in terms of digital technology and above all introduces a pioneering model where sovereignty rhymes with attractiveness and, henceforth, competitiveness in the arena of the 21st century.
