Cold front brings weather change in Salzburg
With a strong south-westerly current, the temperatures in the Alpine region rise again noticeably on Wednesday, on the north side of the Alps, up to 25 degrees are to be expected in isolated cases, according to the weather service Ubimet.
Cold front brings deep to Austria
On Thursday, Austria comes under the influence of a marginal low, which leads to the first storm of autumn in Germany. According to the experts of the Austrian Severe Weather Center (www.uwz.at) We remain largely unaffected by the storm, but its cold front brings a sustainable change to cool weather.
Golden October on Wednesday before cooling off
Before it gets noticeably cooler in the Alpine region, pleasant October warmth emerges, especially on Wednesday. “With a south-westerly current, very mild air masses from the western Mediterranean reach our country,” explains Manfred Spatzierer, chief meteorologist at the Austrian Severe Weather Center. “Thus, temperatures of up to 24 degrees are to be expected on the north side of the Alps and in the southern Vienna Basin, locally there could even be another summer day”. There is also a lot of sunshine all over the country, only in the west and south thicker clouds are noticeable in the afternoon. From the Rätikon over the Wipptal to the Tauern the lively southern foehn blows.
Cold front on Thursday
Thursday then shows its volatile side. From the morning onwards, clouds predominate in most of the country and rain showers pull through on the north side of the Alps as well as in East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia. During the day there are also a few showers in the east. At first it remains dry in Lower Carinthia and southern Styria, where it becomes widespread wet on Friday night. “As the cold front passes, the current then turns from southwest to northwest, so that noticeably cooler air flows into land in the coming days,” predicts Spatzierer.
Rain showers in Salzburg
Loud prevail in Salzburg’s Lungau Central Institute for Meteorology (ZAMG) the clouds already in the morning. From noon the clouds also thicken in the north, rain showers become frequent and spread to most parts of the country in the afternoon. In Flachgau there is then a sometimes brisk westerly wind. The early temperatures are between 6 and 11 degrees, the maximum values reach 12 to 16 degrees.
Noticeably cooler on Friday, but more sun again
On Friday it rains, especially in the mountains and in the south, from time to time, snow only falls above 1200 to 1500 m. In the Danube region and in the eastern flatlands it remains mostly dry and at least temporarily sunny, in the Weinviertel even the sunshine remains and it also begins in the west to loosen up in the afternoon. With the lively to strong westerly wind, however, it cools down significantly and the maximum values are only between 7 and 15 degrees.
Starting on Saturday, the high pressure slowly started
On Saturday we will slowly come under the influence of a high. Especially in the west and south, the sun is shining frequently again. Thicker clouds still linger from the Kaiserwinkl to the Waldviertel and Mariazeller Land, and a few rain showers here and there. Only in the course of the afternoon does the sun slowly start to show up again. When the west wind subsides, the maximum values are between 7 and 15 degrees. The prospects for a long weekend and a national holiday also point to sunny and dry October weather.
