According to Judit Varga, Brussels relies too much on the opinions of NGOs
NGOs and other stakeholders’ opinions should not be allowed to form the basis of the European Commission’s rule of law report, without criticism, Justice Minister Judit Varga said in Luxembourg on Tuesday.
At the European level, the meeting of the Prime Ministers of the member states responsible for general EU affairs in Luxembourg should be addressed to Hungarian journalists Judit Varga stated:
He noted that the European Commission is outsourcing work to non-elected, mainly government-critical, NGOs.
As a result, the report analyzing Hungary makes four times more references to NGO reports than to Western and Nordic countries. He added that the Brussels board takes over the accounts of NGOs without any scrutiny.
The question arises as to what remedy he has in the spirit of the rule of law to oppose an arbitrary, unfounded motion, if another disagrees with the recommendation, he said.
“The rule of law cannot be protected by illegal means, nor can values be violated“
– said the Minister.
He added that Hungary also complains that the committee uses a double standard in preparing the report, instead of ensuring equality between them.
The relationship with last week’s decision of the Polish Constitutional Court, which established the primacy of the national constitution in areas where the law in question does not have exclusive jurisdiction, Judit Varga said: the Polish study said that European law and European procedure institutions also have their limitations.
The attacks on Poland show that “we are living in times when we want to falsely defend a given right and certain values against that right. After all, it stipulates in the individual treaties that the restrictions on which areas belong to and which ones fall within the scope of will, ”he said.
With regard to the issue of energy prices, he draws attention to the fact that the choice of instruments for climate protection requires caution, as it is up to them to pay the price of the ‘climate fight’.
Hungary considers it important that it is not the consumers, the population and the households that pay, but the big “climate destroyers”, he declared.
However, in his words, the plans lying on the table of the Brussels board do not meet this need. The European Commission’s flawed set of rules is also the cause of energy price liberalization, he said. He added that it was necessary to carry out an impact study broken down by level of progress before any relevant measures could be taken.
Lessons need to be learned, shortcomings need to be addressed, and what new common commitment should the European Community make
– He told.
On the subject of migration, he draws attention to the fact that the wave of migration from Belarus on the Lithuanian border to the emergency has found the Baltic government’s own solutions, which shows that its universal old impasse migration package cannot deal with crises immediately and flexibly. .
In any migration crisis, then, member states should have the freedom to deviate from the common asylum legislation, he said. He added that physical measures, such as stopping migration on time, should not only be recognized in principle by the EU, but also paid for. Hungary did not receive a single cent from the EU for building a security service fence on the southern border of the EU, he reminded.
He said about several conferences on the future of Europe: Hungary was actively involved in the debate later. Of the nearly two thousand programs organized across Europe, Hungary will host more than three hundred as part of a series of events until next summer.
