The Radio Impulse party brought joy to all generations
On Saturday evening, crowds of people proudly came to Prague’s Vysočany – those in weird clothes at Comic-Con and then those who went to the Czech party of Rádio Impuls, which they had been waiting for for two years. However, Mirai, Jelen, Michal Hrůza, Olympic, Xindl X, Marie Rottrová and Chinaski made up for this wait perfectly.

A forum of performers in five or six hours – this is a concept that Rádio Impuls bet on six years ago in an event called the Czech Party of Rádio Impuls. It didn’t happen last year, so the listeners had to wait a little longer. Most of the originally announced musicians confirmed their participation in this year’s event, with only one significant force. In contrast to those who had to have to attend musicians from Slovakia before, and so they replaced Paľa Haber and his team as the main stars of Chinaski.

Mirai started the whole event, mainly because their frontman took part in the first round of “Stardance” a few hours later. After a short intro and the first volley of confetti, they started “Øtchi” and then bet one hit after another: “I want to dance”, “Yahoda” and ended everything “If you can’t, then add”. They warmed up the audience very well, despite the fact that a substantial part of the people ended up sitting. They only managed to lift quite a few of them from their chairs for a while. From the very beginning, they could come and try practically everything that the producers of Mejdan offer them – from multicolored confetti and serpentines through blazing fires, sparkler fonts and CO2 to excellent light design. However, the basis was a cascade of projection walls interspersed with lighting technology above the stage, on which very successful animations and effects ran.

Since Mirai started, Deer continued to do great. “Six more nights” started its six pieces a little slowly, at the second “What’s next?” they also invited Kateřina Maria Tichá and continued with them in a calmer spirit, “Calm like water”. But then they started with “Light in the Dark”, and even though “Deer” came to the very end, the right peak came, of course, with “Magdalena”. At their December concert at the neighboring O2 Universe, they attracted excellently.

One of the first pair of headliners was entitled to the youngest generation, which had a very decent representation, Michal Hrůza conquered the middle one. Among the seven songs that I can’t squeeze into my set, there was perhaps none of his hits, including “1 + 1” from the times of Ready Kirken or “Living Water”, which he wrote for Aneta Langerová. Despite the fact that he could have been more distracting than interpreting others, his performance garnered a very warm response.

The break before the next Olympian was filled with a dance number performed by the group Pop Ballet. Matadors of Czech rock, who pleased mainly the oldest visitors, part of which they hit with the title single from the new album “Kaťata” and it was clear from them that they would like to continue with the news. With the words that “now there will be good old men” but they also switched to proven pieces like “Turtle”, “Questions” or “Give me more of your love”. It is necessary to take a look at Petr Janda and Milan Broum, who, despite their age, still seem incredibly energetic and musically match their younger colleagues. If he won an Olympic in anything, it was the familiar animations that perfectly underlined the atmosphere – starting with the turtle and remembering their former connection.

Xindl X had the shortest set, but the longest break. Not through their own fault – due to the striking technique – so the traditional guides of the whole event, Petr Vondráček and Vlasta Korec, had something to do to fill the break. In the end, the technique calmed down and the singer and his band were able to start his set with the rock “In a stupid age”. As one of the few, he didn’t stick to his most famous hits, which he may have kept for the November solo concert at the O2 Universe, and squeezed “Pink Glasses” and “Business” between “Cinderella” and “On the Water”. The audience may have been waiting for more than five songs, but they didn’t show it in any way.

If you were looking for who was the highlight of the whole dinner, then it would obviously tell you that Marie Rottrová, even though at times she sounded as if she had a slight vocal indisposition. Her singing has not been flawless yet, as her acquaintances from previous performances, most often the choruses in the song “Love” caused her problems, but it didn’t really matter. The vocalists helped her in part, and above all she beat everything with her famous grace and warmth. “River of Love”, “Nutshells”, “Margaret” or “Don’t start anything with that fool”, which she edited together with the guitarist of her accompanying bands, were among the songs sung by the whole arena, the younger ones also started dancing . The applause that accompanied Rotter off the stage was tumultuous and unusually long.

The finals of the whole series were taken care of by Chinaski, who paid a little extra for a later hour. This audience thinned slightly and some already found it difficult to hide their fatigue, Michal Malátný & spol. they didn’t show anything on themselves, and with their almost hour-long set, they brought people to a boil again. In eleven songs, they took them on a trip through their discographies, from the album “1. Signální” to the last “11”, from which “Kapradí” was heard. We didn’t see hits like “Klara” or “Long Smoke”, but it didn’t seem to bother anyone. Most left completely satisfied. There is no point in pretending that in the case of Mejdan with Impulse it was a deep cultural experience, there are other events. His task was to entertain live Czech music and well-known hits from the radio airwaves, and he accomplished this excessively. This was also helped by the very balanced choice of performers, which – nevertheless – is always based on the concept something for everyone – was very tasteful and in the case of Marie Rottrová far exceeding generational and musical differences. We can already slowly look forward to the next year, which is scheduled for October 15, 2022.
