At the first meeting of the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon, which took place immediately after the installation of the municipal bodies for the 2021/2025 quadrennium, at the Salão Nobre dos Paços do Concelho, those elected chose Rosário Quinta as president of the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon, with 64 votes in favour, eight against and two abstentions, zero blanks and zero null.
In the municipal updates of September 26 this year, the most voted list for the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon was the coalition “New Times” (PSD / CDS-PP / MPT / PPM / Aliança), headed by Isabel Galriça Neto.
In a brief speech, Rosário Farmhouse thanked “the honor and privilege” of assuming the position of President of the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon, with a “fantastic” team: “I’m sure we’re going to build a path together”.
“The Municipal Assembly, the house of citizenship, will be a house with place and time for everyone, breaking down walls and building bridges, looking for solutions to people’s problems, in the full exercise of a mature and plural democracy, which brings together the representatives of the parties and citizens’ movements chosen by the people”, said Rosário Farmhouse, who is also president of the National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Youth.
For the elected president of the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon, this deliberative body of the municipality, it is noted as “an intercultural, inclusive, open house that promotes dialogue and reflection on structuring themes for the city“As examples the climate crisis, the demographic crisis, mobility, the social elevator of poverty, housing, education, health, security and the recovery of the economy after the Covid-19 pandemic.
It will be a house of holistic citizen participation, including children, giving them a voice in everything that concerns them. I hope to be able to host the Lisbon Children’s Assembly, thus telling them that democracy and the city count on them to build the future”, said Rosário Farmhouse.
Addressing those elected to the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon, the president of this municipal body said: “everyone was summoned by Lisbon, we are all few to build a fairer and more sustainable city”.
Rosário Farmhouse wants to make Lisbon “a woman of hope for the future, tolerant and caring”, who is “committed to decent and safe work, remunerated with equity and justice”, interested in science, culture and sport, “a woman of love, of all loves, without discrimination or judgment, a woman free, independent, in peace”.
“I will assume the presidency of the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon with a mission spirit, I want to serve the city and do good, well done. You can count on my commitment, dedication, honesty and passion. When there is still so much to do to ensure an equitable representation of the plurality that we are made of, I will try to give a voice to those who have no voice, creating conditions of proximity and listening to all people, regardless of their ethnic or cultural origin, religion, gender, class or age”, father the president of this body.
Rosário Quinta replaces the outgoing president of the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon, José Maximiano Leitão.
The coalition “Novos Tempos” (PSD / CDS-PP / MPT / PPM / Aliança) won the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon in the municipal evaluations of September 26, with less than a thousand votes of difference in relation to the PS / Livre. both coalitions elected 17 municipal deputies.
The PSD / CDS-PP / MPT / PPM / Aliança obtained 31.16% of the votes (75,670), followed by the PS / Livre coalition with 30.80% of the votes (74,784).
The CDU (coalition that brings together PCP and ‘Greens’) elected six deputies, with 26,882 votes (11.07%), the BE got four elected, registering 18,518 votes (7.63%), while the Liberal Initiative got 5, 95% of the votes, electing three deputies, Chega three deputies (5.35%) and PAN one deputy (3.53%).
