“Harald Naegeli – The Sprayer of Zurich”
Win cinema tickets, museum admissions and the cult comic by Sambal Oelek. Theatrical release: November 4th
His graffiti are minimalist, but aesthetically powerful. A few, targeted lines condense into a multi-dimensional meaning and capture what is represented in the core. Harald Naegeli became world-famous as the “Sprayer of Zurich” at the end of the 1970s. With his art he criticized the monotonous cityscape, but also politics and the way we deal with the environment. Damage to property suits him and he went into exile. Today, at the age of 81, he is back home and reviving his love-hate relationship with the city of Zurich.
Nathalie David’s sensitive portrait shows Naegeli as a visionary, contentious rebel and as an astute, humorous person who has always dying outraged and delighting others with his art. The film is Naegeli’s testament and a tribute to the utopian.
