Prague has announced a tender for the Dvorecký Bridge, which will connect Prague 4 and Prague 5
The capital has publicly announced a contract for the construction of the Dvorecký bridge for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists connecting Smíchov and Podolí. The bridge is 388 meters long and 16 meters wide.
The estimated cost of construction is around one billion crowns. Until the beginning of next year, we recommend the city the necessary permits and compete the contractor. The estimated duration of the construction work is 30 months. “For Prague’s public transport, the future Dvorecký Bridge is one of the most fundamental constructions of the coming years. It will become the nucleus of the so-called southern tram tangent connecting important tram lines leading from Barrandov and Modřany. The city districts of Prague 4 and 5 will finally see a capacity and comfortable connection. Some tram lines have a shorter journey of up to six reasons compared to the detour across the Palacký Bridge, “says the deputy mayor of the capital. Adam Scheinherr, m. of Prague for transport, adds: “Thanks to the new bridge, we will also be able to transfer part of the bus lines from the Barrandov Bridge, and tens of thousands of people no longer have to stand in the ranks between cars at peak times. This will improve the passage of buses between Novodvorská, Pankrác and Smíchov. Most will also be of great benefit in terms of the connection of friendly cycle paths, which run along both banks, and the creation of a replacement connection across the busy Barrandov Bridge. “
The purpose of the bridge only for public transport, cyclists and pedestrians is based on changes in the Spatial Plan from 2014. However, if necessary, vehicles of the Integrated Rescue System will not be able to drive here. Individual car traffic is also expected to be relieved by diverting public transport buses from the Barrandov Bridge. The Dvorecký Bridge spans the Vltava in the section between the Zlíchov and Podolské embankments and thus connects the Prague 4 and Prague 5 districts.
“The public contract is set up so that it depends not only on the price, but also on the length of the warranty period, long construction and professional qualifications, so that the new bridge has a truly top quality. The application will also include lists of completed construction work, lists of technicians, certificates of education and professional qualifications with a description of the technical equipment with which the company will work. I am sure that the construction of the Dvorecký Bridge will be in good hands, “describes Deputy Adam Scheinherr.
In addition, the construction of this bridge will complement the hitherto missing connection for public transport, pedestrian and bicycle connections between the banks of the Vltava. The construction should also contribute to the improvement of interconnections between tram and bus lines in the Lihovar and Dvorce transport hubs and to the increase of reliability and speed of public transport. The Dvorecký Bridge construction project is included among the highest priorities of the capital both in the Sustainable Mobility Plan and in the Tram Line Development Strategy.
The eastern exit of the bridge will be at Žluté lázně north of Jeremenkova street. West then near the tram stop Lihovar. Part of the project is the design of a new tram and bus stop Dvorecký most. The current management of the city has been counting on the construction of the Dvorecký Bridge for a long time and coordinates all its related investments and reconstruction with its implementation. Dopravní podnik hl. The City of Prague, among other things, founded within the framework of tram closures in 2020 at the Barrandov branch leading to the Dvorecký Bridge. The Lihovar stop will then get a new look during the reconstruction of Nádražní Street. All existing modifications therefore provide for a connection to the Dvorecký Bridge. The construction is also coordinated with the reconstruction of the Barrandov Bridge, which is divided into stages so that the planned bus lines can be smoothly transferred to the newly created bridge.
The authors of the winning design, which emerged from architectural and construction competitions held between 2017 and 2018, are architects from the ATELIER 6 and TUBES studios. The design from the architects does not have a structure above the bridge deck, so it should fit non-violently into the Vltava valley. In searching for a shape solution, the authors were inspired by František Mencl, who was a bridge designer for the capital city of Prague in the first half of the 20th century. According to them, Mencl was well aware of the importance of fitting well into the surrounding buildings and the urban landscape and not disturbing the valuable panorama due to its appearance. According to him, bridges should respect the form of the older ones, ie their predecessors or models.
Visual artist Krištof Kintera works out the space under most of it in the form of a work of art. A multifunctional imaginary Cubist landscape and a “botanical garden” of street lighting will be created here. In addition to the cultural arena, the project also includes a café with refreshments, a picnic zone and Kinter’s author’s statue.
