Near Toulouse, a whole district is mobilizing against Travelers
The residents of the district of Chênes, in Plaisance-du-Touch, are exasperated by the nuisances, insalubrity, insecurity, the degradation of their environment due to the settlements of Travelers.
About fifty residents of rue des Chênes, in Plaisance-du-Touch, a town of 18,000 inhabitants in western Toulouse, met the mayor, Philippe Guyot to express their anger. For many months, they have suffered increasing inconvenience. Nomadic camps spread out between the private land of Unibail Rodamco, (which was intended to accommodate the Val Tolosa shopping center), the land of the 3R group, next to the postal sorting and the communal land which has become a large transit area. unofficial, tolerated by the municipality.
Unexpected power cut
A resident calls out to the mayor: “My son is on respiratory assistance, there was a 4-hour power cut because of their unauthorized connection to the power line which was lying in a ditch and which was cut. Who will be responsible if bad luck happens to my son? “A parent evokes the stress of his young children in front of the rubbish” we educate them not to throw anything for the planet and they see this rubbish, nights there are firecrackers, fireworks … “The mayor explains that the commune… fully fulfill its rights in terms of welcoming Travelers. For residents, it is no longer a question of passage but of permanent occupation which becomes uncontrollable. A representative of the 3R group reports that his complaints have no effect “we gave our land to a farmer who had mown the field, the next morning he had to plow, the land was already occupied. What to do about this? “.
Solicit the prefecture
The mayor urges residents and land owners to initiate procedures with the prefecture, which alone has jurisdiction in the matter to intervene. The tension of the rivers is palpable when they entail that the CCST (Community of communes of the Save to the Touch) validated this summer, the creation of a new area of great passage nearby, in view of the demographic evolution of the common. An indignant resident evokes her dismay: “We pay our taxes and for them, it is free facilities, zero penalties, and there are cleaning costs at the expense of taxpayers …” A next meeting should take place with the mayor and representatives of the association “La Voix des chênes”.
