MHMP: Prague will help keep the Helpline in full operation
18.10.2021 18:02 | Press Release
The capital approved the co-financing of the operation of the Helpline. During the pandemic, the number of calling clients and thus the cost of operating the line increased. Thanks to a subsidy of 500 thousand crowns, the Line will be credible until the end of the year without restrictions, ie in a 24/7 mode.
“Loss of a loved one, a partner crisis, loss of a job, a sudden deterioration of mental state – the Helpline helps people from all over our country to cope with a difficult life situation. With the subsidy, we will help co-finance the further operation of the Helpline and prevent outages that could have tragic consequences, “says Milena Johnová, Councilor for Social Policy and Health Care.
The helpline is part of the Crisis Intervention Center of the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital. It has been operating since 1991 and serves more than 15,000 people on need at 284,016,666 a year. This low-threshold anonymous telephone crisis assistance service is not covered by health insurance companies, yet it is an important link between a person in crisis and professional assistance.
The months-long pandemic, related measures and forced social isolation have caused psychological problems for many adults and children, leading to an increase in the number of callers. This is also related to the costs of operating the lines in order to maintain its operation in the 24/7 mode.
“We appreciate that the City of Prague has decided to continue supporting the telephone crisis line of the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital. Increasing the subsidy will allow us to maintain the quality of services provided. The number of callers has been growing in recent years. Since 2010, there have been more than twice as many, “says MUDr. Martin Hollý, director of the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital.
