From Toulouse, you could soon be cycling to Spain
Lovers of bike rides and travel will be delighted. By 2023, a 200 km continuous and secure cycle path to link to ISpain since Toulouse by bike. The current project is called Transgarona and long there Garonne. It will eventually make it possible to join the Val d’Aran, in Spain, since Toulouse.
Parts of the route that already exist
This project carried by the department of Haute-Garonne has existed for fifteen years with the first course of 110 km made of carbon a Cierp-Gaud Between 2004 and 2009. Another section with a length of 21 km a summer inaugurated in the summer 2021. This section is based Cierp-Gaud in Fos on the Spanish border.
The first trip made in 2004 had cost 2.2 million euros. To which are added 2.9 million euros for the works of the section opened during the summer of 2021. An 18 km bike ride was planned to discover the new cycle path.
The last 43 kilometers to complete
A last section of 42.2 km still remains to be done. “The cycle route project covers a section of 42.2 kilometers, of which 22.8 km are associated with shared routes requiring no other and 19.4 km with greenways”, explains the departmental council of Haute-Garonne . “The part of the route to be created in greenways is 11.4 km”.
This last section will link Portet-sur-Garonne a Marquefave. Once completed, the cycle path will cross ten French municipalities in addition: Portet-sur-Garonne, Pinsaguel, Roquettes, Saubens, Muret, Le Fauga, Mauzac, Noé, Capens and finally Marquefave. The total expenditure for the works is estimated at 5.7 million euros.
