Disability at school: the AESH, not enough in Toulouse, are on strike to express their working conditions
Supporters of students with disabilities (AESH) are called to strike on Tuesday 19, for having expressed their working conditions. They are also missing in schools and colleges in Toulouse and in the department.
Nothing is going well in the small world of inclusive education. While national education has made disability at school one of its priorities, the means do not always follow in Haute-Garonne.
This Tuesday, October 19, at the call of several trade unions (FO, FSU, CGT, South) and the FCPE, a good part of the accompanying persons of disabled students (AESH) on strike. A rally is scheduled between noon and 2 p.m. at Square Charles de Gaulle in Toulouse.
In several establishments in Toulouse and the department, from school to high school, many students still have not had AESH since the start of the school year. A situation well known locally where the lack of support is sorely lacking every year, leaving the students and parents with the fait accompli.
A precarious job
“Since the start of the school year, with the generalization of Pial (inclusive localized support centers), the working conditions of AESH have continued to deteriorate”, denounce the teachers’ unions.
It is true that the profession, poorly paid (782.23 euros per month), is not a dream, which explains the significant turnover in the workforce. As a result, there is a lack of AESH on all floors and parents are mobilizing everywhere.
“Currently, 70 students, or almost 10% of the workforce, have received an MDPH notification (Departmental House of Handicapped People), explain the parents of FCPE students from the Galilée college in Salvetat-Saint-Gilles. Of these 70 students, 49 also received notification of AESH grant. But the account is still not there. 5 AESH are missing, which represents around 180 hours of weekly support ”.
Parents of students from Pierre and Marie Curie elementary school in Toulouse will also demonstrate to remind the academic inspectorate that out of 17 students notified MDPH, “only 3 AESH are present to the school”.
