Members of the Vindicat student association raised more than 114,000 euros at the Amsterdam Marathon on Sunday. The money will be used to research pancreatic cancer.
“It’s shocking”, responds Senatus Rectrix Sanne Veken of Vindicat. “We had a net prize giving ceremony and it turned out that we won 114,835 euros. I am really speechless. We had set the goal in advance at 100,000 euros, and we went beyond that. Really amazing.”
“Pink Wave”
The Amsterdam Marathon was held for the 45th time. The start and finish took place in the Olympic Stadium. The course followed part of the route of the Olympic Games in 1928. “You speak of a pink wave”, says Veken enthusiastically. “Our deed of association met 350 members. They were all wearing pink T-shirts. Eight members ran the full 42-kilometer marathon. The other part, including former members of our association, ran the half marathon of 21 kilometers.” In addition to the participants, there was also a large audience. “Many former members of our association, who have and live in the Randstad, had picked a spot along the route. So there was intentions.”

According to Veken, all Vindicat members have made it to the finish. “We have also trained hard in recent times. The members have invested a lot of time in such an optimal preparation. Really fantastic.” The money raised will go to the Queen Wilhelmina Fund. This year’s proceeds go to pancreatic cancer research. The aim of the research is to make pancreatic tumors more sensitive to the immune system.
