Toulouse. New delay for the restoration of the facades of the Capitol

Definitely the restoration site of the facades of the Capitol Toulouse (Haute Garonne) play bad luck.
A misfortune in several acts, the last twist of which took place a few days ago. The finalization of the third and final phase of the restoration works central pavilion at the entrance to the Capitol has in fact just been rejected.
One month late (minimum)
Initially scheduled from June to September 2021, this project will finally end at the end of October. The reason ? The work revealed damage greater than expected discoveries by the company Chevrin Gély, in charge of the works.
The marble works – which do not exist only on the central pavilion – are affected by surface alterations more extensive than expected. It is about the entablature on which is inscribed “CAPITOLIUM”, and the eight marble columns of Caunes. These degradations correspond to the veining which, under the effect of rains and alternating temperatures, gives way to fine cracks. The intervention, planned punctually in the upper parts of the columns, will be extended to all surfaces which are already fully accessible by the scaffolding in place. “
This new unforeseen event will therefore delay the continuation of the work by several weeks, which will see the repair of the facades of the two lateral parts of the building, on the side of the building. Lafayette Street and some Oil Weight Street. “The assembly of the rue du Weight de l’Huile scaffolding will be done following the deposit of that of the main facade, in December since it takes four weeks to dismantle the scaffolding, and as much time to reassemble them ”, specifies the municipality.
A thwarted schedule
In short, you will understand, the return to normal is not yet for now. Toulouse residents, like tourists, will still have to be patient before finding their favorite monument, ugly for months by tarpaulins, scaffolding and other construction equipment.
Patience put to the test and for good reason. This large-scale work, which should make it possible to restore luster to a building “weakened by runoff and the wear and tear of time, in order to restore it to its original beauty”, should have been completed in November 2020, or it has more one year.
End of work in the second half of 2022
Twelve months late which is explained by the complexity of the site (heavy logistics of securing) and especially by the successive confinements, as well as the health crisis which “directly impacted the original schedule of the works”, explained the town hall to Toulouse news last February.
The end of the work is expected during the second half of 2022 … well if the bad luck stops.
