This year, the Prague Zoo was visited by the same number of people as in the whole of last year
This year’s visit to the zoo in the Czech capitals is also affected by the coronavirus pandemic and related government measures. This year, the Troja Zoo, as well as other zoological and botanical gardens in the country, could not be opened to the public until April 12, although it is usually open all year round. However, there was a restriction on traffic, when the garden could only be filled to 20 percent of capacity. A maximum of 4,000 people could come to the zoo in Troja. From mid-May, more people could come to the zoo, the government allowed the capacity of the zoo’s outdoor spaces to be halved. Without limiting the number of visitors, the zoo could not function until the summer.
In 2020, the zoo was closed from 13 March to 27 April, from 9 October to 2 December and then again from 18 December. In the following days, attendance was limited, for example, by the limited number of people in the zoo or the ban on public access to the pavilions. Thus, in 2020, the Prague Zoo lost approximately 90 million crowns due to measures due to the epidemic. Part of the losses were then rehabilitated by the Prague City Hall, which is the founder of the zoo. Financial support was also sent by the Ministry of the Environment.
The Prague Zoo is one of the most visited places in Prague, pAbout 1.4 million people pass through the gates of the coronavirus pandemic each yearand. So far, most people visited the zoo in the metropolis in 2019, when 1,456,526 visitors visited it.
