Russia and Finland agreed to resume the tourist route
High-speed trains “Allegro” can start running between Russia and Finland. On the agreement reached by the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov. There are no technical obstacles to launching the route. “We are waiting for the final decision of the Finnish Ministry of Health,” Manturov noted.
Earlier, the Finnish authorities decided to open the Vainikkala railway checkpoint from October 18. On October 24, there is a ban on the departure of tourists from Russia.
According to the minister, Russia hopes that Finland will allow tourists vaccinated with Sputnik V to enter. The ministry hopes that the train will be launched by the New Year holidays.
Russian Railways recalled that in the pre-pandemic 2019, almost 800 thousand people entered Russia from Finland, and 3.8 million from Russia to Finland.
“Allegro” – modern high-speed and very comfortable trains. Before their appearance, the journey between Helsinki and St. Petersburg took more than six hours. Thanks to various technical solutions, the travel time was halved – 3 hours and 27 minutes.
The uniqueness of “Allegro” is that they themselves are on lines with both direct and alternating current. In addition, the design uses a tilt technology of up to 8 degrees, which allows for faster cornering. The maximum train speed on the territory of Russia is 200 km / h, on the territory of Finland – 220 km / h.

Allegro has seven cars each (one first class, five second class and a bistro car). Domestic seats for passengers with disabilities, pets, carry-on luggage and even a salon – a meeting room. Each train has a play corner for children. Passenger carriages of both the first and second classes with adjustable seats, folding devices, pockets for storing newspapers and magazines, footrests and electric tables for connecting computers and mobile phones. The trains were modernized two years ago. So, now you can dine in the dining car, sitting on comfortable sofas. But you can’t smoke on trains.
During the trip, passengers can exchange currency or refund tax-free checks. Passengers Service is provided by an international train crew that has undergone special training and speaks three languages.
Before the pandemic, the cost of travel when buying tickets less than 24 hours before departure is 132 euros for travel in a first-class carriage and 79 euros for second-class carriages. After resuming the message, prices may change.
