Portugal with over 465 confirmed cases and nine deaths since Saturday – DNOTICIAS.PT

Portugal currently registers over 465 confirmed cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, nine deaths associated with covid-19, and an increase in admissions to wards and intensive care units, according to data from the General Directorate of Health (DGS )

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the DGS released today, 295 people are hospitalized, 10 more than on Saturday, of which 61 are in intensive care, two more than 24 hours ago.

Of the registered deaths, three occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region and another many in the Alentejo, with the remaining three occurring in the Centre, North and Algarve regions (one death in each region).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, 18,097 people have died in Portugal and 1,079,806 cases of infection have been registered.

The greatest number of deaths continues to be concentrated among the elderly over 80 years old (11,806), followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old (3,875).

Of the total number of deaths registered to date, in Portugal 9,492 were men and 8,605 women.

The data released by the DGS also show that 198 more cases are active, for a total of 30,309, and that 258 people were reported as recovered from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, or that the national total increases to 1,031,400 recovered.

In the last 24 hours, the number of contacts under surveillance by the health authorities decreased by 234, standing at 21,936 cases.

The new coronavirus has already infected in Portugal at least 579,876 women and 499,186 men, according to data from the DGS. There are 744 cases of unknown sex that are experienced under investigation, as this information is not automatically entered.

In the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, another 166 new infections were reported today, with 417,033 geographical cases in this area and 7,707 dead so far.

The Northern region registered 114 new infections by SARS-CoV-2, totaling 413,382 cases of infection and 5,582 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic crisis.

In the Center region, 944 confirmed cases were registered, totaling 144,307 infections and 3,169 deaths.

In Alentejo, 26 new cases of infection were reported, totaling 39,761 infections and 1,047 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Algarve region, today’s DGS bulletin counts 41 new cases, with the total number of infections by SARS-CoV-2 at 43,357 and deaths at 475.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira recorded seven new cases, totaling 12,449 infections and 73 deaths due to the covid-19 disease since March 2020.

In the last 24 hours, according to DGS, the Azores registered 17 new cases, which raises the contagions to 9,117 since the beginning of the pandemic, with a total of 44 deaths due to the disease.

The regional authorities of Madeira and the Azores publish their data daily, which may not coincide with the information published in the DGS bulletin.

Madeira registers today, the 17th of October, seven new cases of infection by covid-19, as indicated by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) in its epidemiological bulletin.
