Monaco is reassured against Dijon, Asvel beaten by Strasbourg
Without Mike James, brilliant in the Euroleague and left to rest on Sunday, the Roca Team controlled the match from start to finish. Already ahead of the score after ten minutes (23-18), the Monegasques pressed on the accelerator at the start of the second quarter to inflict a 10-0 to the Dijonnais. With 15 points ahead, Monaco then managed the meeting.
Donatas Motiejunas and Danilo Andjusic both scored 16 points. Alpha Diallo, very physical in the racket, was also invaluable (11 points). On the JDA side, David Holston, who is used to carrying his team, scored 15 points (Dijon’s top scorer).
First victory for SIG
In the other meeting of the day, Asvel lost on the floor of the SIG (82-74) and lost the lead in the standings to Levallois. After losing their invincibility in the Euroleague Thursday against Tel Aviv, the Lyonnais have this time been beaten in the league. There is therefore no longer an undefeated team in Betclic Élite.
The Lyonnais started the game badly. In the first quarter, they were up to 13 points behind. Faced with them, the Strasbourg people were intractable on three points. Tony Crocker (24 points), John Roberson (10 points) and Jaromir Bohacik (9 points) alternately chained the distant baskets, to post a magnificent 5/5 to three points in the first quarter.
Without an offensive solution, Asvel had a hard time coming back to score. And when the Lyonnais got there, they wasted their ammunition when they had the opportunity to lead. In the last quarter, the champions of France were only one point behind (60-59) and possession. But a three-point shot from Elie Okobo too fast and missed, then a gross foul by Antoine Diot sanctioned by three free throwers encountered end to their hope of taking back control.
After two defeats (against Cholet and Bourg-en-Bresse), the Strasbourg residents won their first victory of the season themselves.
