Jean Asselborn at the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union in Luxembourg
The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will participate in the “Foreign Affairs” Council of the European Union, which will be held on October 18, 2021 in Luxembourg.
EU Foreign Ministers will start the day with an in-depth discussion on the European Union’s approach to the Gulf countries. Minister Asselborn and his European counterparts will then discuss an exchange of views on relations with the countries of the Eastern Partnership.
During the working lunch that will follow, the foreign ministers will have an in-depth discussion on the latest developments in Ethiopia, as regards the humanitarian situation as well, as on the common approach that the EU could take in the face of this crisis. An exchange of views on the political situation in Nicaragua with regard to the November 7 elections will also be on the agenda.
Finally, the ministers will meet on topical European and international issues, which will enable them in particular to address the current situation in Afghanistan, Tunisia and Mali. Developments in the Western Balkans will also be discussed in this context.
On the sidelines of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Minister Asselborn will have a meeting with his Greek counterpart, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.
