“Bust of Yuri Gagarin and Vostok 1”, which represents ties between Russia and Portugal, opened at Taguspark
As part of the FIC.A – International Science Festival, the inauguration of the work of art in honor of the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first human to travel through space on April 12th, took place today in the Gardens of the Quality C Building in Taguspark 1961. The ceremony, which took place in the afternoon, was attended by the Mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais, the Russian Federation Ambassador, Mikhail L. Kamynin, and the CEO of Taguspark, Eduardo Baptista Correia .
The bronze bust, by ADLeónov, was offered to the Municipality of Oeiras by the International Charity Foundation “The Dialogue of Cultures – the United World” and by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Portugal, in honor of the 60th Anniversary of the first human spaceflight and represents the friendship between the Peoples of Russia and Portugal. Now, the artwork will integrate part of the MAU – Urban Art Museum, under development at Taguspark – Cidade do Conhecimento. This sculpture also includes a Vostok 1 nave, which was born from the creative concept of Eduardo Baptista Correia, CEO of Taguspark, and Ana Figueiredo, from Infinity, and the hammer and sickle, symbol of the USSR.
Eduardo Baptista Correia, CEO of Taguspark – Cidade do Conhecimento, saying that “in Taguspark, communism is in the museum. This work of art, which includes a USSR flag next to the bust of Yuri Gagarin and the Vostok 1 rocket, is a tribute to to the first human being in space and this remarkable event”. “It is important to emphasize that History cannot be changed, but we must learn from it and, aware of its demonstration, we are very proud to have this work of art at MAU”, he concluded.
