“A New Day”: Holiday on Ice’s new show will be a guest at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne
Aurora is the name of the female creature from another dimension who one day lands on earth. A fairytale journey begins there, on which aliens discover the splendor of the planet and the world of human emotions in amazement. This is what “A New Day” says, the new show from Holiday on Ice, for which rehearsals recently started in Belgium. The tour with 180 performances starts on November 17th and leads to 23 venues in Germany. The guest performance in Cologne will take place on January 22nd and 23rd, 2022 in the Lanxess-Arena. He is pleased that “the live entertainment is alive again”, said Arena CEO Stefan Lochs, the arena, when the show was presented there.
40 figure skaters take part. So-youn Park takes on the role of aurora; Igor Reznichenko as the main male character Adam. “The show is about the diversity and beauty of our own world,” said Francisco Negrín, Holiday on Ice’s new creative director, at the presentation. The 58-year-old has made a name for himself as a director of productions at the world’s most successful opera houses and major events.
Acrobatics and complex technology
With his new commitment, he has come full circle. When he was five, his parents took him to a Holiday on Ice show in Mexico. “It was the first show I ever saw, and I was thrilled.” As a result, he sat there for several years, designing costumes for ice shows and imagining the shows. For “A New Day” he relies on the estate concept of combining figure skating, acrobatic numbers and elaborate technology. Special effects include 3-D and light illusions. Music specially composed and reinterpreted for the show complete the experience.
The makers of Holiday on Ice have once again won Cheyenne and Valentina Pahde as guest stars. Four years ago, the acting twins made their debut with the show “Atlantis”. This time they form a trio with ice dancer Joti Polizoakis, who trained them for their performance in selected performances. In Cologne they can be seen in the 1 p.m. performance on January 23, 2022. When the drums are stirred for a new production, producer Peter O’Keeffe, CEO of Holiday on Ice since 2017, should not be missing. After the break of 15 months forced by Corona “we actually managed to beat everything before”, he said, “and with“ A New Day ”we created a superlative show”.
“A New Day” in the Lanxess-Arena: January 22nd, 2022 (Saturday) at 1pm, 4.30pm and 8pm and on January 23rd (Sunday) at 1pm and 4.30pm. Tickets from 33.20 euros.
