Z. Čaputová thanks the scientists, apologizes to them for the attack they are facing
“There are always specific people behind scientific practice – the scientists who gave us the previous ones, enabling care to be protected as effectively as possible, but also to help manage our fears, overcome fears or come up with new solutions not only in medicine, digitization and green . technology, but also in many other areas of basic or applied research, “ says the president and I thank scientists, science students and all those who create a favorable environment for science and its functioning.
She also pointed out “unnecessary phenomena” at present, such as the questioning of scientific knowledge or declining humility and respect for education. “The less knowledge in the field, the more courage to criticize. We are obsessed with the need to have an opinion, even if it is not preceded by knowledge.” she stated.
She stated that instead of defending the chosen procedures, scientists have to repeatedly explain basic scientific facts and knowledge, although it is often, in her words, a futile endeavor. “Therefore, I really appreciate that you are not moving with your helping hand, even if some people are irrationally and painfully attacking you or your loved ones. I believe that for the most part it is the fear of the unknown and the frustration rather than the real hatred that drives them to act – often in virtual space – which, however, hurts as really as they do live. I’m asked to let me know: I’m sorry. ” she addressed the scientists.
At the same time, she appealed for further adjustment of the company’s mirrors by the respect with which we are talking about top scientific work. “We must resist the temptation to downplay, distort or misinterpret the results of scientific work simply because they disprove our impressions or assumptions. But we must also actively defend science and you, the scientific community, if attacks exceed tolerable levels.” stressed.
She described science as one of the foundations on which today’s world stands. They therefore prefer, as far as possible, the development of a free and creative academic, economic and social environment that is attractive to domestic and international scientific capacities, effective education, intellectualism, theoretical and applied research, and sustainable technologies. “We all want Slovakia to be successful, inventive, restrictive and confident. This important prize is undoubtedly one of the good ways to move a little closer to this common goal again,” say
