The little ones get a wellness treatment here
On a gray Thursday morning, the Baby Spa in a shopping center in Zurich-Wipkingen looks like an oasis wrapped in cotton wool, isolated from the rest of the world. The room is reminiscent of an oversized children’s room. There is a play area, changing tables and the walls are full of animal drawings. In the middle are the main attractions of the Baby Spa: two whirlpools – one decorated in pink for girls and the other blue for boys.
At 10.30 a.m., Kerstin * (27) and Janick * (35) come to the first appointment of the day with their son Roy * (six months). You have booked a floating session and a baby massage. Nicole Fischer (28), the owner of the baby spa, greets the family and puts Roy on the changing table with a blackboard at the head with his name on it in blue. Then little Roy gets a massage from Fischer.
“The kicking in the water solved Roy’s stomach ache”
During the Corona period, Nicole Fischer trained as a masseuse. She has been running Spa4Baby in Zurich-Wipkingen since January 2021. “I love children. When I first saw pictures of a baby spa, I knew: I want to do that too, ”she says to Blick. There is already a baby spa in Basel, and that of Fischer is now the second in Switzerland.
After the massage, Janick puts swim diapers on his son. Then Roy gets an air ring put over his head and is ready for the whirlpool. The lights are dimmed and soothing music plays in the background. Roy floats in the water for 20 minutes. Only his little head looks out of the ring at the top. He has a smile on his face. Kerstin and Janick have been visiting the Baby Spa with Roy since he was three weeks old.
Kerstin says: “Roy enjoyed the bubble bath from the start. He suffered from colic and kicking in the water eased the pain. ” That was one more reason to come to the Baby Spa regularly. Janick also enjoys the excursions: “It’s a relaxing change to come here.”
“A bath at home does not have the same positive effects”
When asked whether a bath at home is not enough for a baby, Fischer says: “No, it does not have the same positive effects on health.” The bubble bath should not only help with digestive problems, but can also help with sleep problems. This is why evening appointments are particularly popular.
“The hydrotherapy strengthens the immune system and the respiratory muscles,” she says. In addition, it should improve the oxygen that dies, thereby distributing the body. Nicole Fischer is convinced: “That makes the children more receptive and promotes concentration.”
The next customer also agrees, dying to float with her Dario * (eight months). “Dario can move much more freely here,” she says and diligently snaps photos of him in the whirlpool. The atmosphere with the light and the jets is unique in the Baby Spa. “And I can’t offer him a whirlpool at home either.” Jana Giger
