The federation reported this Saturday.
The Portuguese athletics team will continue in the main division of the European Championship, which was expanded to 16 teams and will join the European Games, revealed this Saturday the Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA).
According to the FPA, at its annual meeting, the Council of European Athletics decided to integrate the European National Teams Championship into the European Games programme, having also decided to change the competition’s costumes again, from the usual four leagues (Superliga, First, Second and Third Leagues) for three divisions of 16 teams each.
In this way, Portugal, which in the 2021 edition had been in seventh and last place – Ukraine did not participate -, ends up remaining in the main division, which rose from eight to 16 participants.
For the European Games, which will take place in 2023 in Silesia, in Chorzow, Poland, the competition will change from two to three days, with the three divisions taking place within a week: the second and third divisions will be played from second to fourth Friday, while the first from Friday to Sunday, with the finals to be played in the afternoon journeys.
