Krakow as greener? The trees can return to Maria Magdalena Square and the Main Square
Maria Magdalena Square in Krakow is to be rebuilt next year. Earlier we heard that the trees will also return to the Main Market Square. Krakow as greener – can it happen?
Greener Krakow
Monument to the Monument to the Jesuit Fr. Piotr Skarga is to disappear from Maria Magdalena Square soon. As determined by the portal LoveKrakow.pl, a tree and grass will be planted in its place.
It was made available in 2001, transferred to the square of the monument of Collegium Broscianum of the Jagiellonian University, if the rector agrees.
A green oasis in the middle of the city
Remove the pavement, plant a large tree, and sow grass. I think that such a green oasis will exceed the city’s appreciation and exceed the number of days – says a person from the Krakow city hall for the LoveKrakow.pl portal.
Reconstruction that made it impossible for the Kraków City Road Authority to stop in the following year.
Trees have an impact on life, their functions include:
1. Recreation and health:
- beauty beauty,
- increasing activity,
- inducing the health of the inhabitants.
2. Climatic and reducing air exchange:
- wind protection,
- enriching the air with moisture,
- reducing the temperature amplitude,
- influence on the composition of atmospheric air.
3. Biological and retention:
- for rainwater,
- creating habitats for animals, other plants and fungi,
- secretion of antibiotic substances, the so-called phytoncides.
4. Aesthetic, city-forming and image-building:
- positive impact on the landscape and aesthetics of the city,
- creating an innovative city,
- potential possibility to oppose the spill of the city /
Maria Magdalena Square, not the only place in the center of Krakow where they can return to the tree.
Will the trees return to the Main Market Square in Krakow?
The media reported in June that the City Greenery Authority in Krakow is at the stage of a historical inquiry. After its status, officials plan to write a letter to the conservator of monuments in order to allow access to the provincial market.
Historical query may suggest trees in places where they may already have grown. In the past, according to Gazeta Krakowska – in the interwar period, the rows, i.e. in the plant, were located along the front walls and the Cloth Hall. There are now café gardens in these places. Krakow was greener in the past.
I hope that this time we will get the result from the provincial conservator on planting more trees, on planting more trees, on the shade being a little more, and on this also giving the residents a privilege to rest, also on hot days. It seems that the trees are breaking through into consciousness more and more, also in these historic squares – commented in the red Piotr Kempf, Director of the City Greenery Board in Krakow.
The Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments in Krakow claims that “increasing the biologically active area in the city is an urgent need”.
Krakow as greener? We are waiting for a change on one of the biggest changes in Europe. What is your opinion about the project?
