Index – Abroad – Angela Merkel also defends Hungary from the European Commission with her last word
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the outgoing German Chancellor, has been wary of wanting to withdraw Politico from Article.
The European Commission is considering suspending the payment of certain funds to the two countries for continuing to violate the rule of law criteria. For the time being, the body refrains from using radical means, but many activists and MEPs are following the rigorous move, as Poland and Hungary claim they are signing measures and democracy. A group of MEPs also threatened the European Commission to take legal action for their reluctance.
In a statement in Brussels on Friday, Angela Merkel supported the high-level debate on the issue, but did not approve of the group’s immediate action. Alexander De Croo continues negotiations with the Belgian Prime Minister, saying:
I think now is the time to talk in depth with the Polish Government on how we can overcome the difficulties. We have serious problems, but I would advise that we resolve them by negotiation in order to find compromises.
The outgoing German chancellor also said he disagreed with those who believed that political differences “should always be resolved through court proceedings”. He added, so he was a little worried about the large number of cases currently being filed in court. Angela Merkel also criticized the threat from the European Parliament:
I think it is a frustrating kiss, if I may put it so cautiously, when Parliament says that it is suing the Commission. I don’t think that leads anywhere
he declared.
The question of the rule of law has even made it before it again that the Polish Constitutional Court has ruled on the primacy of Polish national law over that law.
Regarding each rule of law mechanism, Angela Merkel recalled that it was the result of long negotiations under the later German Presidency of the European Council, which required a willingness to compromise on all sides. As he said, as part of this, Poland and Hungary have the right to go to the Court of Justice of the European Union to see if this directive is possible under European law. The European Commission is therefore awaiting a judicial decision using the rule of law mechanism.
