Prague – According to selected booking portals, the Czechs almost bought hotel stays for an extended weekend in October, securing them several months in advance. Vacancies remain mostly in Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně, where there is a large bed capacity. Accommodation facilities in Prague do not follow much demand. In some localities, on the other hand, interest exceeds attendance at the record pre-time year 2019. Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Czechs are optimistic and not afraid to plan. Gradually, reservations for the Christmas holidays and New Year’s Eve are being fulfilled. Fill it in from the statements of reservation and sales portals for ČTK.
The national holiday of October 28, commemorating the establishment of an independent Czechoslovakia, falls on a Thursday this year. If people take a day off at work, they can enjoy four days off. “Most reservations for the extended weekend in October started proudly at the end of September, when the capacities of the accommodation providers were already relatively taken over,” presented Petra Škrobánková from the Hotel.cz portal.
According to Hana Matějčková from the Spa.cz portal, there is traditionally great interest in extended weekends. This year, Czechs have enjoyed their stays since the hotels opened at the end of May. “At the moment, we no longer have free capacity for the extended weekend in October. This year there is a great interest in weekend dates, so we can book our stay well in advance,” said Gabriela Havlínová from the Hotel Prezident in Karlovy Vary.
According to Škrobánková, Czechs most often try to spend their free time in the Krkonoše Mountains, followed by Šumava, Moravia and South Bohemia. According to Matějčková, stays in Luhačovice, Velké Losiny and Třeboň sold out the fastest on Spa.cz. On the contrary, the capital is still waiting in vain for a larger influx of guests. “Nobody plans a trip to Prague much. Usually, reservations are a few days before one night,” represents Škrobánková.
According to Škrobánková and Matějčková, reservations for the New Year’s Eve period are also slowly increasing on the Hotel.cz and Spa.cz portals. The most popular places include Špindlerův Mlýn, Harrachov, Pec pod Sněžkou and Jeseníky. The spa is dominated by Luhačovice, Poděbrady and Janské Lázně.
And yet, according to Ladislav Veselý, the director of the Slevomat portal, there is obvious customer optimism in reservations for the next weeks and months; New Year’s Eve stays do not reach pre-pandemic levels. According to him, it used to be common for most hoteliers to be full in September. “Surprisingly, there is still something to choose from so far. Those who still weigh can certainly be pleased that the average price of a domestic stay at the end of the year became cheaper. In 2019, such a stay cost 5467 crowns, this year it is comfortably 4951 crowns,” he added.
