Altach ends Red Bull Salzburg’s winning streak
Leader of the table Red Bull Salzburg surprisingly did not get more than 1: 1 (1: 1) in the Bundesliga at SCR Altach. As expected, the guests took the lead early on Saturday in the 11th round thanks to Noah Okafor (9th). Altach equalized five minutes later through Jan Zwischenbrugger and held the draw until the final whistle.
Bundesliga series record missed
For Salzburg, the trip to Ländle thus became a failed dress rehearsal before the Champions League game against Wolfsburg on Wednesday. Coach Matthias Jaissle and his team also missed the Bundesliga start record of eleven wins en suite and the season-spanning series record, which they now share with Rapid (1987) with 14 wins en suite. Although the Altach did not win their seventh game in a row, they showed their best performance of the season.
Salzburg strong right from the start
Master Salzburg took the reins in hand right from the start, and the first cheers could not be long in coming. Rasmus Kristensen put Okafor in the spotlight with a wide, opening pass, Tino Casali misjudged when running out, and the Swiss pushed in effortlessly (9th). The video referee dissolved the offside position punished by referee Walter Altmann.
The Vorarlbergers reply immediately
But the native Altachians answered quickly. Johannes Tartarotti and Manuel Thurnwald prevailed on the left with a one-two, and in the middle, the one who had moved up and left alone, Zwischenbrugger converted to 1: 1 (14th). Salzburg subsequently controlled the game, but found it difficult to become dangerous. The supposed 2: 1 after 21 minutes by Junior Adamu was withdrawn because of offside and was at the same time the last dangerous action in half-time one.
A similar picture emerged in the second half. Salzburg made the game, but didn’t even begin to be dangerous. The absence of Karim Adeyemi and Brenden Aaronson was noted among the guests. After 66 minutes, after a quick switch in the person of Csaba Bukta, the Altacher created something like a goal hazard for the first time, but the ball clearly missed the target. Shortly afterwards, a Thurnwald header made it clear that the hosts here even began to speculate with more than one point.
A lot of pressure in the last few minutes
For the high favorites Salzburg it took until the 71st minute when Andreas Ulmer shot again for the first time at Altach goal. It was the beginning of a printing phase in which the compact Altachers managed 1: 1 over time. The last chance in the game was missed by Okafor, who was invisible for a long time in the second half (89th).
