2-1 victory: Hertha achieves an important sense of achievement in Frankfurt
In Frankfurt, Hertha BSC took the first step towards reversing the trend. The team took advantage of the many mistakes made by Frankfurt and gained new self-confidence with a 2-1 win.
First division soccer team Hertha BSC won their away game in Frankfurt 2-1. On Saturday, Pal Dardai’s team won their third win of the season. The Berliners always manage to take advantage of the Frankfurters’ mistakes for themselves.
Both teams started the game restlessly and allowed themselves several bad passes. The Dardai-Elf recognized the gaps in the Frankfurt game faster and took advantage of that. A long pass from the middle to Vladimir Darida initiated Hertha’s first big goal opportunity in the seventh minute of the game. Unhindered by Frankfurt, the 31-year-old crossed the ball from the left edge of the field in the direction of the goal. There Marco Richter touched the ball lightly and made it 1-0. The Frankfurt tried to rally, but shortly thereafter allowed a cross on Richter in front of the right post. An attentive Kevin Trapp prevented the successful conclusion.
The Frankfurt goalkeeper got a lot to do afterwards because his team repeatedly allowed themselves to make mistakes and let the ball be chased away. A series of corners gave the hosts a little more self-confidence, but none of the attacks went into the goal. The Berliners continued to benefit from the many mistakes in the Frankfurt game setup and created several great opportunities. In front of the goal, however, they lacked precision.
In the second half, the Frankfurters increased the pace and shifted the game in front of the Berliner Tor. Pal Dardai, who was on the sidelines as head coach for the 175th time, brought Jürgen Ekkelenkamp and Ishak Belfodil for Richter and Piatek to disrupt the newfound rhythm of the Frankfurt team. The plan worked because his team used the momentum for their first goal attack. Maximilian Mittelstädt played a long pass through the Frankfurt defense to Belfodil from the left. He didn’t quite get to the first post, but the ball went on to Ekkelenkamp, who took the chance to make it 2-0.
However, the Berliner does not manage to gain full control of the game. Chaos broke out in front of the Hertha gate. Goncalo Paciencia pushed Hertha defender Niklas Stark into the arms of Alexander Schwolow, who lost the ball, stumbled and brought Paciencia down on his knees with his arms to get to the ball. The Frankfurt got a penalty awarded. Paciencia turned himself to 1: 2 in the 78th minute. The Frankfurt tried to equalize in the last few minutes, but the Berlin defense held tight.
The 1-0 lead provided initial confidence:
