Manon, a Toulousaine, believed to have had an original creation tattooed. A friend of hers told her that it was actually a drawing of a phone case sold on Shein’s site.
From pride to anger. Manon, waitress in Toulouse, called on a tattoo artist for an original creation. The young woman wanted to have a drawing related to her astrological sign (virgin), in “line art”, tattooed. After long discussions, they finally come to an agreement. On August 4, she had a woman’s silhouette tattooed on her right arm. “I was really super happy. It matched the drawing perfectly. It’s beautiful,” she smiles.
A few days later, a friend of hers informs her that she saw the design on a phone case sold on the Shein website. In shock, Manon decides to confront her tattoo artist on the Instagram social network. “What is startling is that a few details that differ from the design on the hull, these are the elements that I wanted to add when he offered me his” original creation “. It’s a shame!” , denounces the waitress.
Faced with the accusation of plagiarism, the tattoo artist denies. “I assure you 100% that this is my creation,” he wrote. Persuaded to be made roll, the Toulousaine persists. Finally, the tattoo artist half-admits having “possibly already seen the design” before assuring “that the lines are not similar”.
Manon shared her mishap on the social network Twitter. Care story has been reshared by over 10,000 people. Many have pointed out the “exorbitant” price for this tattoo.
“I thought it was his creation. I found it normal to pay 220 euros,” says the Toulousaine. Since the discovery, she has requested a 30% refund, which has been effected.
It wouldn’t be the first time that the tattoo artist plagiarized. According to many Twitter users, he copied dozens of drawings. “A person even contacted me to tell me that she had experienced the same story with the same tattoo artist,” says the waitress.
The tattoo artist, harassed on social networks, deleted his Instagram account. He is unreachable.
